Groupware für kleinere Teams, die alle Informationen auf externen Servern hostet. Die Benutzer greifen über das World Wide Web darauf zu (ASP). Bei umfangreichen Groupware-Produkten wie Lotus Notes oder Microsoft Exchange wird für die Koordination und Kommunikation im Intranet dagegen gewöhnlich ein firmeninterner Server benötigt. Teamware ist sinnvoll für Arbeitsgruppen mit maximal zehn Teilnehmern.
 
Das Teamware-Konzept basiert auf Standardinternetanwendungen wie Diskussionsforen, E-Mail und Chat. Der Unterschied zu den öffentlichen Diensten besteht darin, dass alle Anwendungen unter einer gemeinsamen Oberfläche präsentiert werden und nur autorisierte Teammitglieder Zugang zum gemeinsamen Arbeitsbereich haben. Allerdings sind Sicherheit und Datenschutz nicht in dem Maße gewährleistet wie bei Groupware-Lösungen.
 
Eines der anerkanntesten Teamware-Programme ist Hot Office (vom gleichnamigen Hersteller), das sich v. a. durch die problemlose Integration in Microsoft Office auszeichnet.
